Starting in Sailing March-14-2018

A student at Moody High School recently sent in this information and asked that we post the link to the article.  Please take a look and share it with all that you know that are interested in the sport of sailing.

Hi Rockport Yacht Club,
I go to Moody High School. As project for our mixed elective class this year, we were tasked to raise awareness on sailing and boating safety. Sailing sure is fun but it's not without risks. So it is our goal to increase people's knowledge and ensure that they have the tools to be safe.  Aside from participating in after-school activities, we are also asking sailing and boating clubs to help us boost online and social media awareness.
A recent article I found that I think may be useful especially to beginners ishttps://www.dietspotlight.com/sailboating-safety-guide-beginning-boaters/  Can I ask you to share it on your site?
Thank you and keep up the good work!

On The Water

Cruising

Cruising the Gulf Coast is a favorite of both sail and power boaters. We hold several one day and overnight cruises up and down the coast each year. Upcoming cruises will be posted in the "Current Events" panel to the left. Use the "Contact" form to notify the club if you are a non-member and would like to cruise with us.

Raft-Ups

Raft-Ups are a fun way to meet people and make new friends. The club organizes a couple of raft-ups each summer. Upcoming raft-ups will be posted in "Current Events". You don't have to be a member to join our raft-ups; just use the "Contact" form to let us know you'd like to participate and a club member will contact you.

Tiki Island

The waters of Aransas Bay are some of the most pristine along the Gulf Coast. The Rockport Yacht Club makes an annual pilgrimage to Tiki Island. Immediately across the bay from Rockport, Tiki Island boasts beautiful beaches and lots of birds. Our trip includes a picnic on the island with burgers and a variety of beverages. Some of the club even spend the night on Tiki returning the next day. Use the "Contact" form to let us know if you would like to go on the Tiki Island picnic but need a ride. A club member will contact you to arrange your transportation to the island.

Motorboat Activities

The Rockport Yacht Club is planning a number of activities during 2011 for members with motorboats. These include a RYC Fishing Tournament and one or more "Texas Tropical Coast Cruises" including one with an overnight stay. Members with sailing vessels will be welcome to join these outings; however, the main focus is to develop fun motorboat activities. We would appreciate your ideas; so, please send any suggestions to Sig Murphy at sigurdandmary@gmail.com .

Nautical Education

The Navy League in concert with the Rockport Yacht Club sponsored a visit by the Coast Guard Cutter Steelhead. More than 30 Navy Junior ROTC Cadets turned out to learn about the ship and its mission.

The Rockport Yacht Club held the first USCG Training session of the year on February 5th. About a dozen members attended the one day session.
